It’s been forever since I last blogged! Sometimes life gets so busy that you forget to do the little things, you know?
I’ve been getting ready for the show at the DeZion gallery lately. Today, my Dad and I drove down to my grandparent’s house to drop off a bunch of pieces that will be in the show. My grandpa has agreed to make the frames for all the art. Normally my brother Jake would do it but he’s kind of on his honeymoon right now so he’s a little busy . Anyway, Grandpa makes fantastic frames so I’m really excited to see how they come out. I’m sure they’ll be amazing. It was fun to see my grandparents reaction to the art. They’re so proud! Grandma’s eyes just lit up as she was looking at it. Man, it always makes me feel so good to make my family proud of me. After all, family is what it’s all about.

Zions Canyon is dominated by spectacular panoramic views. However, sometimes the micro scenes are just as inspiring. I am in awe of this thriving yucca plant growing out of a rock face.

Join us for a reception at DeZion Art Gallery by Zions National Park featuring Maria’s Art on Saturday July 4th between 5 and 8 PM. Maria has been working hard and we hope to have more than thirty of her original paintings on display and available for purchase. High quality prints of her work will also be available at the reception.
I like to use watercolor to paint trees but that just wasn’t practical on this one since they were close up pine trees. Pencil made more sense and they turned out just fine. They just took a long time and it was rather tedious work. Oh well, all’s well that ends well and I think this came out quite nicely.
This is a painting I did from a photo that was taken in Zion’s National park. I am putting together a series of paintings of the area for DeZion Art Gallery. My family and I went into the park and took a ton of pictures and this is the result of one of those photos.

I did this one because I love to imagine what life might be like for the animals of the forests. Their world must be so quiet all the time, so very silent. Their lives are an ongoing struggle for survival and yet they are at all times surrounded by breathtaking beauty. Are they concious of this beauty? Are they aware of the magnificence of creation? Do they ever stop to glance about them and gather these visions the way that humans do?
I like to think that they do.

I am fascinated by the natural world around me and the people who live in it. Nature is art, and I love to try and capture the beauty that resonates through it. Everything and everyone has a story to tell. Everything and everyone around us is full of emotion and life and has had experiences that we can’t even imagine.
