New Paintings

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

I have a show in St. George this weekend so I’ve been working on a bunch of new paintings. I want to keep things fresh, you know? The show is called the Open Air Art Affair and it’s being put on by Ed Wallace and Gayla Prince Wallace. I’ve been to a few of their shows now and they’re really nice. I love the atmosphere and it’s really fun to meet other artists and art lovers. Anyway, here are my latest paintings. I’ve actually finished 2 more as well as these but they haven’t been photographed yet. Hopefully I’ll be able to post them tomorrow.

To watch us dance is to hear our hearts speak.

I believe art is a journey, an exploration of ourselves and the world that we experience. It’s a way to express ourselves and discover ourselves at the same time. Lately I am fascinated with the idea of combining that which I experience in the real world with that which I imagine my feelings to look like in order to share my feelings about certain things with others. I hope that you can see through this painting that I have a passion for native cultures and the beauty of dance and rhythm. In fact it’s actually an expression of my passion for life in general. Every day feels like a dance to me, a celebration of color and light.

here’s a better photo of this painting.

My new painting from Zion’s National Park

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

p1110832Last night I finnished my 3rd painting in my Zion’s park series. I enjoyed this one while I was working on the rock itself but the trees were not as fun. I like to use watercolor to paint trees but that just wasn’t practical on this one since they were close up pine trees. Pencil made more sense and they turned out just fine. They just took a long time and it was rather tedious work. Oh well, all’s well that ends well and I think this came out quite nicely. I’ll try to get a better photo up as soon as I can. The sky is actually blue all the way across!

A painting of a scene from Zion’s national park, violets and greens in nature

Monday, March 16th, 2009

This is a painting I did from a photo that was taken in Zion’s national park. A gallery down there wants me to do a bunch of paintings of the area so my family and I went and took a ton of pictures and this is the result of one of those photos. The one below of the cowboy was from the same photoshoot. The cowboy is actually my brother Shane. Anyway, I just finished this last night and really like the way it came out.

painting of a cowboy walking into glistening autumn leaves -titled The Path

This is my newest painting. As usual it’s not the best photo but I thought I’d post it anyway. I just finished it today and I really like how it turned out. The cowboy, ground, and some of the plants are colored pencil and the trees are mostly watercolor.
