Dogs like music too.

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

Ah, the weather is beautiful today! I’m out in the back yard working on a new painting. I paused to blog. I’m typing on this cool little word processor called a NEO that I can carry with me anywhere. I totally rocks.

I’m letting Lola run around the yard while I work. She’s so funny though. She won’t run around the yard unless I do as well. She just wants to stay right with me. That’s wonderful when we’re out walking but when I’m trying to work it’s a pain! She KEEPS stealing my pencils, my eraser, my NEO. The only thing that will calm her down is for me to play my Irish whistle. The instant I start playing she settles right down and sits near me in the shade. Every time. It’s fascinating to me. She loves music! I think that’s so neat. See, dogs and people aren’t so different. She just wants to run around, love and be loved, and to have some good music to listen to. I can relate to that.

Here are some new paintings I’ve done.

This one is called Little Dancing Boy. I’m proud of this one on account of the fact that Lola ate the first attempt. Hahaha!

Sorry I haven’t blogged in so long!

It’s been forever since I last blogged! Sometimes life gets so busy that you forget to do the little things, you know?

I’ve been getting ready for the show at the DeZion gallery lately. Today, my Dad and I drove down to my grandparent’s house to drop off a bunch of pieces that will be in the show. My grandpa has agreed to make the frames for all the art. Normally my brother Jake would do it but he’s kind of on his honeymoon right now so he’s a little busy :) . Anyway, Grandpa makes fantastic frames so I’m really excited to see how they come out. I’m sure they’ll be amazing.  It was fun to see my grandparents reaction to the art. They’re so proud! Grandma’s eyes just lit up as she was looking at it. Man, it always makes me feel so good to make my family proud of me. After all, family is what it’s all about.

New painting of a birdy perched among leaves

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

Here’s the first painting I’ve finished of the little birdies I took pictures of. Well actually I did another one but I don’t like the way it turned out so you don’t get to see it. :) I know, maybe I’ll burn it and make another burn bad art video! That was fun. Anyway I think I”ll call this one Among the Leaves.among-the-leaves

My artwork on display at The DeZion Gallery at the mouth of Zion’s canyon

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

The DeZion art gallery in Springdale Utah (located at the mouth of Zion’s canyon) has agreed to show my work. It’s a really nice gallery and I quite like the other art that they have there. They are even going to let me be in a show. The reception will be on the 4th of July and they would like me to get as many paintings of Zion’s national park done as I possibly can before then so I’m just going at it like crazy these days. I’m really enjoying the work. To be honest I wasn’t sure that I would since I’ve never been all that interested in doing landscapes but Zion’s national park is so breathtakingly beautiful that I’m really getting into it. I’ll post the paintings on here as I finish them.

A painting of a scene from Zion’s national park, violets and greens in nature

Monday, March 16th, 2009

This is a painting I did from a photo that was taken in Zion’s national park. A gallery down there wants me to do a bunch of paintings of the area so my family and I went and took a ton of pictures and this is the result of one of those photos. The one below of the cowboy was from the same photoshoot. The cowboy is actually my brother Shane. Anyway, I just finished this last night and really like the way it came out.

a video presentation of the artwork of Maria Hathaway

My brother, Chas put this video together as a way of showcasing my artwork. I think he did a great job. I hope you’ll take a moment to watch it. Don’t worry, it’s not too long.

Blue jay

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

bluejay.JPGI am so excited for spring to come. It’s march now so warm weather is on the way and I can’t wait! I want to be able to go outside in a T-shirt and cut-offs. I want to be able to take barefoot walks and go hiking in sandals and lay out under the stars without sinking into 3 feet of snow! (: I want to be able to spend hours and hours outside working in a garden or wandering the mountains.

I drew this picture because I wanted to express a feeling of springtime and the fresh newness that comes with it. I took a few pictures of this one, the way I did with the red squirel, so that you can see some detail and have a better idea of what it looks like.bluejay2.JPGbluejay3a.JPG

Shelly’s eye

Friday, February 15th, 2008

shellys-eye.JPGThis is a drawing of my sister Shelly’s eye. She has really dark eyes, almost black. I’ve always thought they were really beautiful. This drawing doesn’t do them justice but I did my best. It was done with black and white prisma color pencils from a photo that I took. I remember the day I took the picture. We were running around the city and just having a great time. Hey Shelly, we have to do that again sometime. (:

Fantasy #2 Queen of Neziaro

Friday, February 8th, 2008

f21.JPGHere’s another fantasy painting I did. I named it Queen of Neziaro because of a fantasy land called Neziaro that my family made up. We like to make up legends and fantasy stories and such. You can read some of them here.
